Lorne House is the former residence of the Rev. W. Awdry, creator of Thomas the Tank Engine and friends. Its appeal as a B&B goes beyond this fact however. The house is located in a tiny rural village within easy distance of Bath and has been fully modernised while retaining its classic charm. The rooms - bathrooms especially - feel similar to what you might expect from a decent hotel. The proprietor and his wife are unassumingly friendly and will provide, alongside a decent full English breakfast, all the information you need about the local area. I particularly recommend the beds here for people with bad backs as the mattresses feel very similar to the orthopaedic one my wife and I use - we had excellent sleep! However, people used to soft beds may find these a little hard. Also, a downside of a B&B with this many bedrooms is that the hot water runs out during busy times - you are well advised to get your morning showering in early. Nonetheless, thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
