Tartu (also known as Dorpat or Yuryev) is the second largest city in Estonia with a population of 100, 000. It is a Hanseatic city and a university town. Dating back to 1030, it is the oldest city in Estonia.

Tartu (deutsch und schwedisch: Dorpat, früher deutsch auch Dörpt ; /Derpt, 11. –17. Jahrhundert, 1893–1918 Юpьeв/Jurjew) ist Estlands zweitgrößte Stadt und Sitz der Universität Tartu. Sie liegt beiderseits des Flusses Emajõgi (deutsch Embach). Die Betonung der Bezeichnungen Dorpat und Tartu liegt auf der ersten Silbe.
